We regret that the Crestline Trail Rally was forced into cancellation.
The latest entry received for Crestline Trail Rally was on August 14 increasing our entry level to 9. Unfortunately, this is 6 entries below our most optimistic break even point for the costs of conducting this BC Regional Championship and Pacific Coast Challenge rally.
Regretfully, the Island Rallysport Club is forced to cancel this rally. The reason is lack of entries, but the reason for this lack of entries is unknown. Whether it is due to being scheduled in the summer, or due to economic personal pressures, or some other reason, we simply do not know. However, we fully anticipated a field of at least 20, based on the reports and enthusiasm expressed by the entrants in 2008, and are severely disappointed that many entrants have not returned, despite assurances last year.
We apologize to all who were really looking forward to this excellent rally. We apologize to those who have booked time off from work and family. We apologize to our sponsor, Michael Mason & Co. Ltd., without who the 2008 event would have been in dire difficulty as well. Sadly, Michael Mason and some IRC members have already incurred costs, which are not recoverable; but conducting the event with too few entrants would only have made a bad situation much worse.
And we apologize to those who so generously offered to work this rally.
The likelihood is that IRC will not attempt a BC TSD Championship rally for the foreseeable future, at least off Island, and we encourage you all to support the remaining events on the calendar, so that they don’t end up being cancelled for lack of entries as well.
Over the next week, IRC will be issuing refunds to the applicants, with our sincerest thanks for their support.
